My recent trip to Paris and Aurillac France was fantastic. The Elon dance company performed End Game beautifully and I had a great time teaching two kearns dance project technique workshops. I found all of the French dancers to be very open, committed and expressive movers. Vendetta Mathea and her entire staff at La Manufacture Dance Centre were incredible hosts. We stayed at a beautiful country estate owned by the city of Aurillac and used for visiting artists. The whole experience was fabulous and I’ve been invited back next May 2013 for a two-week residency. I am bringing company dancers Allie Lochary and Kara Griffin and possibly one more dancer. Robert Kearns, production manager and my better half, will be joining us. Our residency will include teaching a variety of classes and workshops at La Manufacture, setting a work on their dancers including a site-specific piece, and performing a few pieces from our repertory. The company and I are looking forward to being at La Manufacture and working with all of the talented artists there!
We’re headed out to France today to perform End Game in the 2012 Semaine de la Danse in Aurillac, France. Be on the lookout for photo’s and video’s from the tour! Au revoir and viva la danse!
The company will present Twister in the 2012-2013 NC Dance Festival Tour. Twister is a high octane duet that abstractly explores the game Twister within a post-apocalyptic context. I made the duet in 2007 and am looking forward to re-staging and slightly re-designing it. Renay Aumiller, an exquisite dancer, will be joining the company for the 2012-2013 season and will be featured in Twister. I will be auditioning additional dancers – please check back soon for details.
